What was the defining moment that led you to create this product? What problem does it solve?

The Nimbus Dome was created when Smartphone cameras were finally able to take 8 megapixel pictures. I had the idea before, but cellphone cameras were not good enough. With the Nimbus Dome you can securely mount your Smartphone on top of a dome for even diffusion of light. The dome is made of translucent white plexiglass that is perfect for light diffusion and great photos.

After you came up with the idea, how did you size up the market and decide who your customers would be?

My existing customers are mainly in the jewelry business because our marketing efforts started with them, but realistically anyone with a Smartphone is our potential customer.

How did you go about naming your product?

Since clouds diffuse light and my father is a Meteorologist, we came up with the names Cloud Dome and Nimbus Dome.

How long did it take you to create you initial prototype, and what problems did you run into along the way?

Since we have developed products similar in the past is was not hard to come up with the prototype. Changes were made to the way we held the Smartphone to the top of the dome.

Funding a new idea is always tricky. How did you go about lining up the money you needed?

We did a Kickstarter project and successfully raised $15,000.

Is this a product you’d like to produce and sell yourself, or are you wanting to license it to someone else? And if so, who?

Right now we are producing and selling it ourselves. I would like to license it to someone else in the future.

What all channels are you using to market your product?

The Internet, distributors, Social Media, trade show, and direct marketing.

How many people do you currently have involved in your business?

3 people

How do you define success? What would hitting a “home run” look like in your mind?

Success would be getting distributors and opening new markets. A home run would be to sell the company or license my products to a big distributor.

Where do people go to find out more about your product?

www.clouddome.com
