World’s Largest Hole in the Ground

The world’s largest hole is a diamond mine next to the small town of Mirnyy, in Russia’s Eastern Siberia.  The excavation measures 525 meters deep and 1.25 km in the diameter.

The following truck loader is one of the biggest in the world – lenth 13.36 meters, width 7.78 meters and height 6.65 meters.

This giant truck appears as just a small point (red arrow) in the next image…

Irregular wind patterns around the hole has created a suction that has resulted in several helicopter crashes.  For this reason all flights above the hole have been banned.

Nearly all of the city’s economy comes from the hole.  Few economists understand the true meaning of a "hole economy."
